Why Was Ghosts of New Eden Postponed to Avoid Competition with Cyberpunk 2077?
Ghosts of new eden wisely postponed its release to avoid competition with Cyberpunk 2077. By choosing a different launch window, the game’s creators strategically circumvented the overshadowing effect of Cyberpunk 2077’s immense popularity. This decision aimed to ensure that Ghosts of New Eden receives the attention it deserves from players, without being overshadowed by one of the most anticipated games in recent years.
Limited Edition Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X Owners Still Waiting for Refund
Three years after the partnership between Xbox and CD Projekt Red to release a limited edition Cyberpunk 2077-themed Xbox One X console, many buyers are expressing regret over their purchase. The reason? They are still waiting for information regarding a refund for the recently released Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, Phantom Liberty, which was originally supposed to be included in the bundle.
The Limited Edition Bundle
In 2020, CD Projekt Red and Xbox collaborated to offer a limited edition Cyberpunk 2077-themed Xbox One X console for sale. Priced at $400, this 1TB console came with a Cyberpunk-themed controller, a digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077, and a one-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate trial. It was also promised to include the “future first expansion release” according to a Best Buy listing. Limited to only 45,000 units, it was the final limited edition Xbox One X version to be released.
Disappointment and Reimbursement
However, in 2022, CD Projekt announced the conclusion of development on the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Cyberpunk 2077, stating that Phantom Liberty would not be released on those platforms. In a blog post, the studio assured those who had purchased the limited edition console that they would receive reimbursement in the form of Microsoft store credits to compensate for the missing DLC. However, one year has passed since then, and owners are still waiting for their reimbursement.
Several Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) posts have expressed confusion regarding the status of these refunds. Some individuals claim to have approached customer support from both Microsoft and CD Projekt, but both companies seem to be deflecting responsibility by redirecting them to the other for assistance. While it is true that the DLC was awarded to the Xbox account linked to the console and can be accessed on a Series S or X console, it offers no solace to those who do not own a Series S or X.
IGN reached out to CD Projekt for comment and was informed that Microsoft would be contacting customers who purchased the limited edition console “soon,” although no further details were provided. We have also reached out to Microsoft for clarification and will update once we receive a response.
It is unfortunate that Phantom Liberty did not make it to the last generation consoles, as our reviewer rated it 9/10, stating that it “completes an immense turnaround for CD Projekt Red’s future RPG.”
